I’m Georgia (BA Hons Popular Music, PGCE in FE) and I set up Singing Mums when my first little boy was small. I do lots of the song arrangements for female voices using songs I like, set to a level that suits the group. I have over 15 years singing and teaching experience, I’ve toured with bands, been in the charts and released four solo albums. I’m now the vocal tutor at Leeds Arts University and I lead the Leeds choir In Horsforth.
I understand how important it is for Mums to have something to do for them selves and to have a voice. Singing is known to release endorphins and decrease cortisol in your blood, the stress hormone. And there’s few jobs more stressful than being a Mum. Singing as part of a group is great socially and has helped me combat stress and anxiety. We always make time for a cuppa and a chat, sometimes a prosecco.
Meet your teachers
Jackie Craig BA Hons, PGCE in Secondary Music
Jackie has been making music for over 40 years. Her experience ranges from leading choirs and instrumental ensembles to delivering music technology workshops to young people with learning disabilities. She has worked as an accompanist, piano teacher, singing teacher and music artist taking students to perform at the National Festival of Music for Youth in Birmingham for three consecutive years.
Most recently she has been working freelance in the Wakefield area, delivering Culture Cures projects through Stride Theatre, setting up a special needs children’s choir through YAMSEN and creating pop-up choirs for events in the area. We have luckily nabbed her for Singing Mums Wakefield before she gets snapped up by someone else!
